Paraxylene
Reliance Industries limited (RIL)
is the 5th largest producer of Paraxylene (PX)
in the world. With Aromatic plants located at
different locations, Reliance has an annual
capacity of approximately 1.86 million tons.
APPLICATIONS
It is
the building block for the entire polyester industry.
It is processed to get Pure Teraphthalic Acid
(PTA) or Dimethlyl Teraphthalate (DMT) that is
further processed to form polyester fibers.
The aromatic
complexes are located on the West Coast of India
from where bulk of the foreign trade takes place.
These locations have a strategic importance as
they have easy access to ports, which make it
convenient for exports.
Exports
RIL exports
large quantities of Paraxylene to the leading
petrochemical companies located all across the
globe. Reliance’s market share is 7-8% internationally,
with product well established in Asia, Europe
and America.
Paraxylene History
Aromatic
hydrocarbons have been produced commercially since
the early part of the last century. Initially
they were used as mixtures, in solvent applications.
Benzene was isolated as an individual compound
by 1850. However the demand for Xylenes increased
only after the 1950’s, when the chemical industry
started growing rapidly. Xylenes form the basic
raw material for the production of polyester fibers,
which has become the heart and soul of the complete
textile industry, packaging, furnishing, coating,
consumer goods, resins etc.
UOP Technology
UOP INC
USA, world leader in Aromatic and Petrochemical
processes, has supplied the basic technology.
With the kind of technology and the scale of automation
incorporated, production of the highest level
is achieved and total quality control is ensured.
Due to the incorporation of computer integrated
manufacturing (CIM) process the chances of manual
error occurring has been minimized to a great
extent.
