Applications
Precision
cut fibres of 1.5-4.0 mm length are used to
reinforce the lead oxide paste used in "Pasted
Plate" type batteries.
Technical
Issues
Precision cut fibres
for the lead acid battery industry must conform
to the following features, for both individual
manufacturers and the international ones.
Thermal
stability
Should have high
melting point. Should not discolour nor stick
together when heated in air at elevated
temperatures.
Acid
Resistance
Should be resistant
to sulfuric acid.
Extracted
impurities
Should have minimum
impurities when treated with sulphuric acid. The
impurities of significance to battery industry
are Iron, Manganese, Chloride & Nitrate
among others.
Dispersion
Fibres
should easily dissolve in water. Even when mixed
with powdered materials & solutions of
sulphuric acid.
